A better night’s sleep when you’re that much more tired. It was wonderful to see people hear the drums and grab their food and drink and head to the finish line to cheer in their fellow runners.
I am amazed at the leaders with times of 3.5 and 4 hours. The athleticism and dexterity to run over all those rocks and tree roots astound me. They are to be admired. And yes, they get tons more rest time than the rest of us. Speaking of which, today I found the lake and beach with Jeremy the doctor from North Dakota and that cold water on my feet felt like heaven. I felt like I entered a scene of it.
I love the river crossings. I’m proud of myself for doing better than I’ve ever done. I can make my way across and see the best route much more quickly now. The duckboard strategy is key: widen your stance, walk like a duck, and watch especially when you’re crossing together. Your feet are directly tied to the person in front and behind you, and if they sway, you sway with them.
